I Overcome Self-Doubt and Perform

I have had this blog for approximately somewhere around a year, I think. It sits in a dark corner of the internet, not one word typed, the only hits it receives coming from me. I procrastinate anxiously and let it disappear, until I find it again.

This explains my confidence most of the time: it vanishes and reappears in different forms seemingly out of my control. It has found me again, and I have resolved to perform a poem I wrote several months ago at the Potbelly's near my school, Howard University*.

The last time I performed my poetry was over two years ago, in a contest for a slot in a poetry exhibition**. I didn't win in the two times I went for it, but I did learn a lot about the art of spoken word along the way. I am not really so good at delivering my lines with passion, and mumble a lot of my speech. My poems often read better on the page***.

As my first blog post, I assume this meant to somewhat introduce you to who I am and what I do and all of that. I will explain more about myself with each successive blog post, cataloging the various things I encounter in my life****. As you can see, I like to use asterisks to hold chunks of information that I think are, while essential to the enjoyment of each piece, more suited to orbit the work than inhabit it. So far, I think the effect works well, but I will have to be careful not to overuse it*****.

There are a few places that you will be able to find me throughout the internet, besides here. My good friends at nappyafro.com have had a home for me on their staff since the year 2008. I also have a tumblr, an instagram, a twitter, and a second blog called "The Magic Notebook", where I will post the random sparks of inspiration that I get at different points during the day.

I will do my absolute best to keep this blog running and updated, rather than continue to relegate it to that dark corner of the internet, only explored by me in passing. I hope you have fun; I will try to myself.

Extras

*I will be writing the majority of these blog posts either on my phone or in the iLab, either during the early hours of the day, early afternoon, or night.

**Howard University used to hold Poetry Shows during it's famed Homecoming Week. They have since ceased the tradition.

***I like giving the reader the passion and the journey on a telepathic level, rather than simply vocally. It is a more intimate experience.

****My life has a lot of different twists and turns that often confuse me and are seemingly hilarious to others. I am pleased to bring joy to others.

*****Too late.
